Green Island (04-07Apr13) 040_2.jpg
Lighthouse, Green Island -- A school of juvenile striped eel catfish (Plotosus lineatus).

Juvenile specimens of the striped eel catfish live in large agglomerations of 100s or even 1000s of fish for protection.

The first dorsal and each of the pectoral fins of a striped eel catfish can inject a highly venomous toxin. The toxin can cause severe pain or, in some rare cases, even death.
Even the sting of an only 1-2 cm juvenile (as the ones shown here) is reported to hurt like a bee sting.
