Diving in Kenting (06Jul13) 105.jpg
Kenting, Taiwan -- Close-up of an anemone crab (Dardanus pedunculatus) at night.

Dardanus pedunculatus is probably the most common species of hermit crab, easily identified by the red and white eye stalks and the green eyes.

The shell is nearly always covered with small sea anemones. When disturbed, the sea anemones retreat.

The symbiotic relationship between the crab and the anemones provides camouflage for the crab and allows the sea anemones to feed at different locations when the crab moves around.
