Crinoid - Kenting (17-21Feb10) C 054_2.JPG
Kenting, Taiwan -- Crinoid (sea feather)

Crinoids are amazing. This animal grabs the substrate surface with it small 'legs' and thus anchors itself while feeding in a current.

If dislodged, it floats to a new location and sometimes even starts a 'running movement' towards a better spot. How it determines to what location it should 'run' and then actually moves in a controlled manner is beyond me as this animal doesn't have anything resembling a brain!
