Kenting, Taiwan -- The Christmas tree worm, Spirobranchus giganteus, on coral substrate<br />

Even though it looks like two tube worms, the twin spirals of a single animal are shown in the picture.<br />
<br />
Christmas tree worms live in calcareous tubes which penetrate living coral heads.<br />
They are extremely variable in color: yellow, blue, purple red, orange and brown ones are all observed.<br />
Upon the slightest disturbance they instantly retreat into the shelter of their tube.
